POTUS Trump slams John Kerry’s Iran meddling, says he should be prosecuted under Logan Act

If ever anyone has ‘earned’ the right to be prosecuted under a never-used 18th century law, POTUS Donald Trump believes it is former Secretary of State John Kerry.

On Thursday, the president lambasted one of the architects of the horrific “Iran nuclear deal” for meddling in the current administration’s affairs regarding its policies and dealings with the Islamic republic, Breitbart News reported.

“That’s a violation of the Logan Act, and frankly he should be prosecuted on that, but my people don’t want to do anything on that,” POTUS told reporters at the White House.

No doubt, that took a great many establishment news journalists aback; Democrats acting on their own to subvert the current administration is not only okay but, apparently, required. But when it comes to Republican ‘malcontents,’ then, the president said, Democrats are all-in on the prosecutorial bandwagon.

Last year Kerry, Obama’s second secretary of state after the chronically criminally investigated Hillary Clinton left the position, admitted to having secret discussions with the Iranian foreign minister, Javad Zarif, “three or four times” to talk about the nuclear deal that POTUS Trump exited.

“John Kerry violated the Logan Act, plain and simply,” the president said Thursday. “He shouldn’t be doing that.”

The Logan Act, passed in 1799 but codified in 18 U.S.C.A. § 953 [1948], “is a single federal statute making it a crime for a citizen to confer with foreign governments against the interests of the United States,” an online description of the law states. “Specifically, it prohibits citizens from negotiating with other nations on behalf of the United States without authorization.” (Related: John ‘Benedict Arnold’ Kerry admits meeting ‘3-4 times’ with Iran to ‘preserve’ nuke deal.)

The act is little-changed since its passage and has never been used. It’s short; here’s what it says, for the most part:

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Why isn’t Kerry being prosecuted?

While it’s not known what Kerry and Zarif discussed, it’s fair to say it had nothing to do with hockey scores or ‘the grandkids.’ To be sure, what Kerry did sure sounds like a textbook violation of the Logan Act.

In his comments, President Trump said that Kerry’s interference ensured that Iranian officials would not reach out to him in any way or work to improve relations with his administration.

“They should call, and if they do, we’re open to talk(ing) to them,” the president said. “We have no secrets, and they can be very, very strong financially.”

Asked about the risk of a military confrontation with the Islamic republic after reports earlier this week noted that the Pentagon had dispatched the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier battle group and four B-52 bombers to the Persian Gulf region, POTUS acknowledged one existed.

However, he said, “We have one of the most powerful ships in the world that’s loaded up and we don’t want to do anything,” he said, reassuring both Iran and American allies.

At the time Kerry’s meetings were made public, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called them “beyond inappropriate.”

“This is a former secretary of state engaged with the world’s largest state sponsor of terror and according to him, he was talking to them, he was telling them to wait out this administration,” Pompeo said.

Sounds like a Logan Act violation to us.

There should at least be charges against Kerry. Otherwise, the Washington ‘elite’ will continue flouting our laws because they will continue to believe they are above them.
